Innovative simulation-centered design approach enabled Lucid Motors to develop the Lucid Air from scratch in just a few years. The car is called "Air" due to the spacious interior compared to the overall size of the vehicle.
Challenges
Lucid used CAE simulation for crash safety extensively for vehicle development to reduce physical testing, save costs, and speed time to market. While Lucid had onsite HPC resources, they often had a need for urgent work that needs more capacity than their onsite resources provided. Due to the fast pace of design of the car, designers needed decisions from the CAE team that couldn't always wait for on-premise HPC queue times.
